A regular teeth-cleaning routine is essential for good dental health. Teeth should be brushed twice daily (the second time at the very end of the day) for two minutes using a fluoride toothpaste, which helps prevent decay.
Brushing can begin as soon as the first milk teeth come through. Only a smear of toothpaste should be used at first, and it should contain between 1,000 and 1,500ppm fluoride.
After the age of 3 the amount of toothpaste used should be increased to a pea-sized amount. Brushing should be supervised by an adult until the age of 7, by when children should be able to sufficiently manage themselves.
